blair and his memoirs

Posted by michael on September 1, 2010

However clever Blair thinks that he is, the reality is that he came into power with the Golden Inheritance from the last Conservative government, and once he had spent  that, New Labour carried on spending driving the UK into more and more debt .
We are now in the worst debt situation in modern times, and the candidates for the Labour leader are mostly those who helped to put us into severe debt!
Are there any potential Labour leaders who could run the UK in a sensible, moderate way? I think not!!!!

The burka is a threat to our security

Posted by michael on July 18, 2010

This is a poor decision by the Conservative/lib Dems.
What is effectively being said is that Islamic women can protect their identity in the UK, wherever they are. People who are not  of the Islamic faith are not allowed to do the same.
Hoodies are not allowed in shops but burkas are!
This is a ridiculous decision! This is not just opposition to a religious concept, it is an essential action whilst we are under the threat of attack by islamic extremists.
We have already had a hunted male extremist escape from the UK by wearing a burka.
We are giving the enemy a means to break through our security to attack us!

Is the UK really going to put our basic security at risk by allowing men or women in burkas to go unchallenged through our towns and cities and  security lines?

Labour hypocrisy – NOW the wars were wrong!!!

Posted by michael on May 22, 2010

Here we have two hypocrites who supported the invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan but now say that it was a mistake!!!

I never heard Milliband saying that the invasion was wrong once he had become an MP. I never head Balls say publicly that Blair was wrong to go to war.

As a member of the cabinet Balls agreed 100% with Blair to invade Iraq.

Did I hear either of these people say that the invasion of Afghanistan was wrong? How many other Blair and Brown policies that so many people in the UK objected to, will now be disowned by these two ex-ministers? And if Labour ever win another election, will all these failed policies be resurrected?

Balls and Milliband must have known that the UK debt was so high that the country could end up needing the IMF to rescue it?

They must have understood that the people of the UK were going to have huge tax rises and massive cuts in services because of the Labour governments policies. Did they stand up for the people then?

This seems to be a case of ‘hypocricy rules’!!

This Labour leadership election with failed ex-cabinet ministers trying to become the party leader is just a bad joke. No one in the UK will trust these people again. If Labour want success then dump these losers and get some real, genuine people as Labour MPs!

Nearly time to vote!

Posted by michael on May 5, 2010

It has been an interesting pre-election period.

I think that the Gordon Brown and New labour campaigning has been quite shameful and cynical.

The insistence of campaigning by scare tactics intended to worry the vulnerable and the elderly will be how history records the New Labour campaign.

There has been a lot of this negative campaigning from New Labour. Even Gordon Brown has been telling people what the Conservatives are going to do rather than being focused on what New Labour propose!

The Libdems have participated in the campaign  much more than normal. There is still the risk that they will be squeezed out by the two main parties, except possibly in marginal seats where tactical voting would seem to be going to take place! It would be good if they replaced New Labour forever as the second party in the UK.

I believe that the UK is in a critical point in its history. The UK is so seriously in debt that we have to get this under control very fast. It is not just the published debt figures. Most of the new schools and hospitals have been built on debt that is accumulated in the Private Finance Initiate (PFI). The PFI debt includes a lot of debt from various sources and is not included in the UK official debt figures.

New Labour took the Golden Inheritance from the last Conservative government and turned it into a recession with the UK so saddled with debts that we will all be paying back the debts for many years to come.

We will all be taxed very heavily to screw more money out of us. We will all have to pay higher prices for everything we buy, including electricity and gas!

The UK is at risk of going the same way as Greece, with our debt getting junk status.

New Labour, that mostly means Gordon Brown, has caused the banking crisis (Brown took away controls on the banks which led to the credit crunch and recession) and has brought the UK to the brink of bankruptcy.

I haven’t even mentioned the wars in Iran and Afghanistan which we should not be involved in!

Labour have failed us, they do not deserve to be in power again.

The Bank of England Governor Mervyn King is absolutely right

Posted by michael on April 30, 2010

The Bank of England Governor Mervyn King is absolutely right. The UK financial mess is huge.

Labour have cynically hidden the true state of the UK’s finances from us during the election campaign.

They are desperate to get back into power so that they can keep the pretence going that that Labour are capable of running the UK economy!

But the huge financial mess that we are in is the best reason of all to dump this lousy government and replace it with a Conservative government.

I would then like to see Cameron going public with the full state of the UK finances. Then we would all know how big the problem (challenge) is for Cameron to deal with.

Brown being questioned about the wars

Posted by michael on March 5, 2010

Brown had kept himself in the background whilst Blair was taking the UK to war. The impression Brown gave was that he did not like was happening.
But we now know that he fully supported the Iraq invasion and then the military action in Afghanistan.
We have had all the stories from the front line that our troops have not had the proper equipment for the action in Afghanistan, with particular reference to snatch land rovers and helicopters. There is plenty of evidence that they were not equipped properly, if only that the government finally acknowledged the shortfalls and started improving the equipment the soldiers were using.
The UK will now know that Brown was fully in support of the military actions and can share fully in any credit or blame that results from these wars.

Brown had kept himself in the background whilst Blair was taking the UK to war. By doing this Brown gave the impression that he did not like was happening.

But we now know that he fully supported the Iraq invasion and then the military action in Afghanistan.

We have had all the stories from the front line that our troops have not had the proper equipment for the action in Afghanistan, with particular reference to snatch land rovers and helicopters.

It would seem to me that Blair is reviled by the majority of the UK population. Brown should now take his place next to Blair in the annals of history.

those who messed up the UK economy are not fit to fix it!

Posted by michael on March 4, 2010

Not surprising that the financial markets cannot believe that the people who messed up the UK economy so badly would be the right people to fix the problems!!
Just changing the UK government (which means that this turgid bunch has gone) would go a long way to getting the UK back on a sound financial footing.
Gordon Brown and Blair started with the Golden Inheritance  from the last Conservative government over thirteen years ago. Their term in power has been a financial and social disaster for the UK. The actions of Blair taking us to an unnecessary war has cost the country billions and, more importantly, cost the lives of many of our military, plus up to a million Iraquis and Afghanis, many of them civilians.
It is a shameful chapter in the history of the world. The UK needs to get rid of every vestige of this ‘New’ Labour thinking. It has been a disaster.

Would people really vote for a failed Prime Minister?

Posted by michael on March 1, 2010

I see all these comments like ‘If you want us to vote Tory then do …..’
Are these people seriously saying that they would rather vote for Brown and a failed Labour government that has almost brought the UK to it’s financial knees?
Would they really prefer to vote for the man who has given us such massive debts which they are going to be taxed on to repay over many years?
Or the PM who promised us a vote or the EU and FAILED to deliver, instead committing us to be run from Europe?
Or Brown as Chancellor who changed all the financial controls on the banks and consequently failed to see the recession coming!
Would they really want to vote for the PM who failed to make the decisive decisions about our energy policy and we will now face electricity cuts at peak periods for a couple of years?
And the government which deliberately ramped up immigration so that they could bring in people they would expect to vote for Labour?
Has all the money (or should I say debt) that has been spent on the NHS really improved more than a couple of high profile services?
What about the lack of money that means the police are asked not to arrest anybody near the end of their shift because it saves on overtime payments!
Then there is the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Should we really be involved?? Were our troops really properly equipped?
You might not like Cameron but at least he is competent enough to do the job properly!!!

Prime Minister Blair said that war was necessary!

Posted by michael on January 27, 2010

A lot of people accepted that the war was necessary because the Prime Minister of the UK said that it was necessary.

They were being misled by Blair, Brown and New Labour but that dues not mean that they were wrong to put the safety of the citizens of the UK as their first priority!

I have a problem with the Lib Dems voting against a war which we were told was necessary for the security and safety of the people of the UK.

If Blair was telling the truth about the need for war then the Lib Dems were not putting the security of the UK as their first priority!

The fact that Blair, Brown and New Labour were misleading us about the importance of war to defend our country, does not detract from the fact that the Liberal Democrats chose not to take steps to protect the UK from being targeted by Iraq.

New Labour – desperate for a class war ?

Posted by michael on December 29, 2009

Naturally Labour are desperate to show a class war with the Conservatives helping their rich friends and New Labour helping their poor, lower paid supporters.

The poor, lower paid have of course been the focus of the the last 12 years of New Labour in government?

Actually NO! Labour have failed to look after the lower paid. They have failed to support their union friends.

Living standards for the poor are worse now than 12 years ago.

Child poverty, despite the money spent on it, is as bad as it ever was.

Education standards are lower in state schools!

New Labour like their millionaire friends, to have (several) expensive houses, to be photographed with important people, to jump when the USA tells them to!

New Labour have no right to claim that they care for the poor. The traditional left-wing Labour MPs appear to have been sidelined!

Blair and Brown and many of their ministers would appear to be only interested in living the high life! Now the chickens are steadily coming home to roost and New Labour are beginning to understand that they have isolated themselves from almost all areas of society.

An example of Brown and Labour putting themselves before the country is the refusal of this government to stand down now and have an election.

The UK is in desperate straits. The finances are shot. The debts are huge and will take years to pay back. Public Services are being cut. Decisions are being taken by a government whose focus is on surviving the next six months.

How can that be good for the UK? We need decisive action and long term decision making. Whilst New Labour hang on to power looking for ways to survive, they are putting the interests of the UK after the interests of the country!
