Labour ministers not competent to fix UK financial problems

Posted by michael on October 10, 2010

Real hypocrisy from the new labour ministers when they complain about student loans. Labour introduced them in the first place!!!
They had plans to to raise the level of the loans if they had won the last election!
But these are mostly the same shadow ministers who were ministers in the last incompetent labour government.
They put the UK into a really serious financial mess and now are complaining about the remedy needed to get us out of trouble.
Labour only know about making a mess of our economy – they are expert at that!
They don’t seem to know anything about fixing the mess that they caused!

the labour leaders are behaving despicably

Posted by michael on September 10, 2010

What I find so despicable about the current Labour leaders is that they claim to have billions of pounds of cuts that COULD be made without harming our economy.
BUT they won’t tell us what they are!!
So they either DON’t have these cuts that could be safely made OR they do know what to do but won’t tell us.
They obviously have more important things to do than help get the UK out of the mess that they made of it!

school achievements reach new heights!

Posted by michael on August 14, 2009

The desperate focus of the school system in the UK to achieve targets rather than to educate the children, has reach a new absurd level with the announcement that a school boy has been awarded a certificate showing that he is able to use a bus to get to where he wants to go!

This really is laughable, but how many hours of  time have officials and bureaucrats spent in maintaining the records necessary to issue these certificates ?  I would expect that each certificate has probably cost the tax payer hundreds of pounds to produce!

How many other totally stupid and laughable certificates are being issued by these extremely expensive layers of useless burocrats that New Labour have introduced since they came into power?

police to investigate mp’s expenses

Posted by michael on June 19, 2009

Interesting to see what happens now. As I have blogged before, there are very few MPs who have actually broken any rules.

Be fascinating to see MPs being prosecuted when they  followed the rules for claiming expenses that were set by this government!

It would be a bit unfair to prosecute people for following the rules, especially when their expenses have been accepted by the officials running the system.

I already expect some claims for damages by MPs who have been chucked out and deselected for following the rules!

They must feel very let down by the government and they have certainly been damaged by what has happened.

New Labour ‘disappointed’ at Qatada ruling

Posted by michael on February 19, 2009

So the home secretary has said she is “very disappointed” the European Court of Human Rights has awarded compensation to the  radical Islamic preacher Abu Qatada.

I am confused as to why she is disappointed!  Here is a man who has not been charged with anything illegal but has been held both in Belmarsh high security prison and at home under a 22-hour home curfew. Was it not absolutely inevitable that the European Court would rule that his rights had been breached and that we would have to pay compensation!

I do not support this bloke,  I would like to see him thrown out of the UK and I don’t really care what happens to him after that, but we have a legal system in the UK that both protects us and punishes those who trangress the law.

I believe that our legal structure is an essential part of our free society. The Home Secretary would seem to believe that the Law is there to support whatever policy she and the Labour government think would suit them at the time!

There appears to be no legal grounds for imprisoning this man. That would suggest that he had not broken any laws in the UK. So why did they imprison him in Belmarsh and then imprison him in his own home? Wht is worse is that they must have known that they would end up losing the legal battle and end up paying him compensation for breaching his human rights!

I think that they took on this hard but illegal line because it suited them politically. Could they not forsee how ridiculous  this would inevitably make them look! The New Labour cabinet should pay this compensation  from their own pockets and not from the public purse!

I am not supporting this radical Islamic preacher. But if the government is prepared to ignore the law in his case, then who is next?

Perhaps people who blog against the policies of this government?

Employing British people

Posted by michael on January 31, 2009

In Europe all the barriers are down between the European states.

ha, ha, that was a joke although it is not that funny!

The UK is one of the most expensive places in Europe in which to live. Everything seems cheaper in Europe compared to the UK. I don’t think that people in the rest of  Europe pay as much of their earning in tax, whether direct or indirect (but I am happy to be corrected on this)

We recently saw the builders flocking in from Europe, in particular Poland, to work for much less than the British builders. It put a lot of builders out of work!

Of  course companies who tender for private and government building contracts will use cheaper labour if they can. It reduces their costs and they can therefore submit tenders for work at lower prices than the British companies can.  It is not a level playing field!

And also, the companies and the workers will probably be paying their taxes in Europe. The workers will be only spending a small amount of money in the UK, most will go to their families in Europe.

The UK loses in every way and it may also have to pay benefits to those British workers who are unable to get work.

No companies should be allowed to bring workers from Europe just because it is cheaper than employing British workers. Surely this goes against everything that Europe should stand for. Or is Europe really just a sham, lots of ideals but very little actually gets done!

Home repossessions increase by 92%

Posted by michael on January 23, 2009

Between July and September over 13 thousand families were evicted. That is one family being repossessed every 10 minutes!

So what happened to Gordon Brown’s claims that he would reduce repossessions and take steps to ensure that people stayed in their houses for now whilst the economy recovered? There has been all sorts of talk about preventing people from losing their homes and being  evicted from them. But it does seem to be just talk!

I am sure that there must be some people who were helped but for the reposessions figure to be so high they would seem to be a minority!

One fact that really damages the integrity of this government is that, as owners of Northern Rock, they were actively repossessing homes of people who got into trouble with their payments.

One would have thought that if this government had any influence in the financial markets then they should be able to dictate the activities of Northern Rock when it is owned by the UK and they run it!

“The UK has low debt “

Posted by michael on November 11, 2008

The PM has just (11-nov-2008) said that the UK has low debt levels and therefore it is acceptable to borrow more money to fund the attempts to get out of the recession.

But the PM is redefining the definition of ‘debt’ that he refers to.

Basically he has decided that the definition of UK debt that he will refer to does not now include the money spent on Northern Rock, on Bradford and Bingley, on the bank bail out and the PFI debt.

So it seems to me that Mr Brown is saying that provided we don’t count a lot of the debt that the UK has, then the UK does not have a lot of debt and can therefore borrow more!

Now, on that basis, I can ignore that fact that I don’t have a high income and can borrow money on credit cards and loans and purchase anything I want! Well, why not? If I simply ignore all my debts then why shouldn’t I borrow more?

The UK government is doing just this!

Government plans tax cuts to help the economy

Posted by michael on November 9, 2008

Recently the government have been very certain in their plans to borrow a huge amount to spent on building projects. The PM has been adamant that this is what needs to be done.

The opposition have said publicly that this would be wrong because it would not work and would leave a legacy of debt that would need to be repaid in the future.

It is now being revealed that the government has changed it’s mind and will be introducing tax cuts in an attempt to revitalise the economy.

I trust that they will publicly acknowledge that this was the stated policy of the opposition.

What I want to see the government do with the tax cuts is to only provide them to households with an income of  less than, say, £30K per annum.

Why?

  • Because these are the people who need the money.
  • These are the people who are being squeezed financially with increased costs for most things that they have to buy.
  • These are the people who will need to spend the extra mony (those who can afford to live without extra handouts will simply save the money and won’t help the economy be spending it)

Those on benefits should also have a share of this spending power although this will need a decision by them to make money available to the benefits system. But they need to make this decision simply on compassionate grounds.
