the Budget

Posted by michael on June 22, 2010

How could the Labour reply to the coalition budget not include any acknowledgement that their term in government was the cause of the budget that they are attacking?

Labour cannot claim that the crisis was caused by the banks system failures. If Labour had proper controls in place the banks would not have got into the mess that they did.

Labour don’t have a right to complain about the new government fixing the economic mess that Labour made when they were in power.

Do we learn from our experiences?

Posted by michael on May 4, 2010

If your doctor messed up an operation on you, would you use them again?

If your accountant messed up your accounts and you subsequently had tax problems, would you use them the next year?

If your child carer did a bad job, would you still use them to care for your children?

New Labour took the Golden Inheritance from the last Conservative Government and turned it into the most massive debt that the UK has ever had.

We will be paying now for many years with increased taxes and higher prices as a result. We will have to work longer before retiring on lower pensions.

What a mess our economy is in.

We have learnt how Labour runs the UK.  It would not be sensible to let them do all this again!!!!

UK borrowed £163.4 billion in last financial year

Posted by michael on April 23, 2010

UK public borrowing is at record levels.

The UK government borrowed £163.4 billion in the financial year ending in March.

Tax receipts have fallen significantly. Too many people are out of work or earning minimum wages that do not attract tax. The Labour government is committed to paying huge public spending bills.

The nation’s borrowing almost doubled from the £96.5 billion cost last year.

Our borrowing is 11.5 per cent of national output (according to the Office for National Statistics).

This should give people an idea of the massive task ahead of us in clearing these debts. Each man, woman and child in the UK now has to find £15,000 each to clear this debt. (Obviously we are not each going to be asked to find £15000! – it is an average).

But, on average, we will pay this money through increased taxes, increased cost of living, new taxes, new and increased charges for everything, possibly 21% VAT, probably more parking regulations and higher fines across the board.

The government will have to get £15000 from each of us on average by hook or by crook.

This is what Brown and New Labour call success! It is what I call failure! How dare Brown adopt a financial policy which is going to hurt so many people over many years. Our government is meant to look after us , not milk us for everything we have got!

Only the worst dictatorships can treat their people with such indifference!!!

Posted by michael on March 18, 2010

Our government plans massive fines of a £1000 for people who simply make a mistake of having the wrong rubbish in the wrong bin!
This is an appalling move by this government whose job is too ensure a fair and equitable society with an emphasis on helping those who are not that well off!!!
How can any elected government propose to treat people so badly?
Most people simply do not have £1000 or anything like it in order to pay these fines. It would absolutely ruin them. They could easily end up losing everything once bailiffs and the courts got involved.
This government knows that the most likely people to make such mistakes are the lower paid, the pensioners  and the more vulnerable members of our society.
How can a family who have perhaps only £80 a week for all their food bills, travel, clothes etc. even begin to pay off such a fine. In such families even a £50 fine is crippling.
Yet a banker can pay a £1000 from the petty cash!!! New Labour have lost touch with the concept of an equitable society. It would seem that the Labour Government members now see themselves as ‘upper class’ and have lost all desire for an equitable society provided they get massive salaries for themselves, loads of perks, and own a number of houses!
After 14 years of New Labour, the UK is close to bankruptcy and the average person in the UK is suffering financially through lost jobs, many have lost their mortgages, most have no savings, most are looking forward to a difficult few years due to the failure of the economy.
Only the worst dictatorships can get away with treating their people with such indifference!!!

Is the British Crime Survey of any use at all?

Posted by michael on March 9, 2010

The British Crime Survey is a survey of people’s views. It is not related to actual crime figures and is based on people’s perceptions of crime.
It is easy to manipulate. People may believe that violent crime is too high in our society but the survey asks if people feel that it has got worse or better. They may feel that it has not got worse recently even though they may believe the level of violent crime is far too high!!!
The British Crime Survey is a questionnaire of 40,000 households, and is unrelated to actual recorded crime figures.
How can this survey be recognised as the most accurate way of recording crime levels!! It is a joke! The best way is to count the actual violent crimes that take place. Nothing is more accurate that that!
The Conservatives are exposing the under reporting of violent crime by New Labour.
I suspect strongly that if the view of the survey was that violent crime had gone up or there was a decrease in actual violent crime then this government would go back to the official figures!
I don’t understand the point of the British Crime Survey anyway! It is not factual, simply people’s perceptions. On this basis crime will go down on nice sunny days or when England win a football game! Crime will go up when people are feeling down!
I suspect that it is a political attempt to mislead people by distracting them from the actual crime figures!

New Labour ‘marriage is a dirty word!’

Posted by michael on December 27, 2009

New Labour cannot admit publicly that marriage is the best lifestyle in which to bring up children.

Using ‘stable parental relationships’ instead of the word ‘marriage’ shows how difficult it is for them to accept marriage as important.

They seem to think that accepting marriage between a male and a female would be denigrating any other form of relationship.

Perhaps it is the association of Christianity with marriage that sticks in their crawl!

I don’t think that Labour has changed it’s views! In my opinion this is just about presenting another face of New Labour.   The Conservatives champion marriage as important, therefore Labour are just trying to pretend that it is important tot hem as well!

Christmas 2009

Posted by michael on December 17, 2009

Christmas will probably be good for the retail trade. But it is just a one off event!

Most people are not spending much money, instead they are repaying debt and saving as much as they can.

Of course parents are going to buy Christmas presents for the kids but not for each other!

Many people are saving because of the risks of unemployment. They are also saving because the government have said that huge tax rises have yet to come, especially council tax and energy bills amongst others. People know that they need savings to stop them going into debt .

This Christmas is a testimony to the last 12 years of the New Labour government!

the inability of New Labour to pass competent laws

Posted by michael on September 26, 2009

Two mothers, whose families have been friends for years, are not allowed to look after each others children.

Why not!

Because Gordon Brown has passed laws which are meant to deal with child abuse but apply to everyone in the country.

Childminders need to be police checked. Fine, no problem with that.  But it is a million miles away from two women who have known each other for years and help to look after each others children!

Of course there are categories of people who need to be cleared to work with children. But these people are normally, at least to start with, strangers to families. Schoolteachers, youth club leaders, doctors, there are many other categories,  are part of a child’s life for a short time in most cases.  These people are mostly not known to parents, and they should be cleared to work with children.

Family friendships can be for a lifetime, applying the law in these cases is just crass!

Want to know why Brown is seen by so many people as a useless prime minister? It is because he is completely out of touch with reality. I do wonder if he only employs advisers who agree with everything he says!

Yes there have been some bad cases of child abuse. But there always will be some bad cases of child abuse! Laws or no laws! These rules are being applied to the 99.99% of the population who do not abuse children. Passing bad laws that legislate for specific situations always end up applying to the bulk of the population, people who are not doing anything wrong but are just living their lives in a completely proper and competent manner.

Brown will claim that this is all to protect children.  But has he passed any laws yet that will ban any person on the children at risk register from having their own children?

Can he really justify applying laws to everyone except families who have a parent who is actually registered as a risk to children?

Are New Labour competent to govern?

Posted by michael on August 14, 2009

I have a fairly low opinion of the competency of New Labour and their leaders.

But the way that our leadership run the country affects so many people, in same cases the consequences are awful.

One of Gordon Brown’s personal statements on what he was going to do to help families who were having problems paying their mortgage was to introduce the Mortgage Rescue Scheme. This was a key announcement by Brown and it was intended to show how he was able to respond to the needs of people who were likely to lose their homes because of the recession.

It took time for the scheme to come into effect, during which many people would have had their homes repossessed!

But we now find that the number of people that the scheme has helped in England is 15.  It is good that 15 families have been helped but what about all the other families who have had their homes repossessed?

15 families helped! In Scotland it is around 1000 families, in Wales it is 70 families.

There were 11,400 repossessions between April and June. Yet this grandly announced scheme of Gordon Brown  has only helped 15 families!

Is this just incompetence by our government? Or are they only interested in saving the banking system?

Perhaps the officials involved in awarding certificates showing that school kids are able to catch a bus, should have been  spending their time on the Mortgage Rescue Scheme!

Tax on you and all your houses!

Posted by michael on July 26, 2009

What are New Labour proposing?

The Mail on Sunday has details of a new tax on anyone who lives in a house, unless there are no redeeming features at all of the house or the view from the house!

William III introduced a window tax in 1696. That is why some of the windows in older houses are bricked up. Just to avoid the tax!

Charles Stuart II introduced a Hearth or Fireplace Tax in 1662. The tax had to be paid for each fireplace in a property.

The significance of this new New Labour tax is that it is not based on absolutes, At least the Kings of old actually taxed something that was useful  to the householder!

You may not like the view from your house. You may be fed up with the bus stop outside your gate because of the noise at night and the mess left around your gate. But you will still have to pay this tax!

We already pay council tax on our properties, the amount paid depends upon the value of the property in question. But the factors that determine the value of a house include the size of the house, the area the house is in, the views from the house, the presence of patios and conservatories, garages and the availability of parking.

In fact the new envy tax from New Labour is based on many of the factors that establish the council tax band.

This is a second tax on top of the council. We are being taxed TWICE for the same property assets!

No wonder New Labour like this tax! Right down their street! They should be taxed fr the idea!
