no free bus passes after a ‘sneaky’ rule change

Posted by michael on April 12, 2010

More than three million older people will be forced to wait up to five years for their free bus pass after a ‘sneaky’ rule change.

Who does this sneaky, disgusting bit of politics, actually hurt the most? The answer is the elderly.

These people have paid their taxes over many years, most have worked for over 40 years in the UK.

Yet Brown and Darling target them in this nasty bit of legislation just to save some money at the expense of the elderly.

Everybody should be very wary of everything that Brown and Darling do! It does not seem to me that they are serving the UK, rather that they are protecting themselves.

It just show how deep in trouble the UK is after 13 years of Brown and Darling, and how far they will go to protect themselves at the expense of the UK population.

Guess the new VAT rate if Brown gets his way!

Posted by michael on April 12, 2010

When you look at what Brown is saying and what he is not saying, about VAT rates, it is absolutely clear that he is planning a VAT rise if he gets back into power.
Looking at the VAT rates of the Euro countries, the smaller, weaker countries (like the UK is now!) have VAT rates in excess of 20%. I would not be surprised if the UK went to 21% VAT in two steps over 12 months.
Increasing VAT is most harmful to the lower paid. Those people on low, fixed incomes are going to be hit very much harder than those who earn a reasonable income.
If VAT is increased  then Brown is going to harm Labour’s natural supporters more than those who vote for the other parties.

New taxes to fund the NHS care of the elderly

Posted by michael on March 30, 2010

We have paid our taxes for all of our lives. This has included elements of care for the elderly in care homes!
How many people’s pensions would have been enough to keep them in their old age? That was before Brown decimated pension values by heavily taxing them!
So lets have the death tax to provide care for the elderly.
Another tax on individuals.
Labour don’t seem to have any solutions that do not involve taxing us more heavily!
This current debate is not a sign of planning for the future etc. but it is proof of the profligacy of New Labour in government.
Not only have they almost bankrupted the UK they would seem to have spent all the money paid by the UK workers for their care when they are elderly!

Only the worst dictatorships can treat their people with such indifference!!!

Posted by michael on March 18, 2010

Our government plans massive fines of a £1000 for people who simply make a mistake of having the wrong rubbish in the wrong bin!
This is an appalling move by this government whose job is too ensure a fair and equitable society with an emphasis on helping those who are not that well off!!!
How can any elected government propose to treat people so badly?
Most people simply do not have £1000 or anything like it in order to pay these fines. It would absolutely ruin them. They could easily end up losing everything once bailiffs and the courts got involved.
This government knows that the most likely people to make such mistakes are the lower paid, the pensioners  and the more vulnerable members of our society.
How can a family who have perhaps only £80 a week for all their food bills, travel, clothes etc. even begin to pay off such a fine. In such families even a £50 fine is crippling.
Yet a banker can pay a £1000 from the petty cash!!! New Labour have lost touch with the concept of an equitable society. It would seem that the Labour Government members now see themselves as ‘upper class’ and have lost all desire for an equitable society provided they get massive salaries for themselves, loads of perks, and own a number of houses!
After 14 years of New Labour, the UK is close to bankruptcy and the average person in the UK is suffering financially through lost jobs, many have lost their mortgages, most have no savings, most are looking forward to a difficult few years due to the failure of the economy.
Only the worst dictatorships can get away with treating their people with such indifference!!!

those who messed up the UK economy are not fit to fix it!

Posted by michael on March 4, 2010

Not surprising that the financial markets cannot believe that the people who messed up the UK economy so badly would be the right people to fix the problems!!
Just changing the UK government (which means that this turgid bunch has gone) would go a long way to getting the UK back on a sound financial footing.
Gordon Brown and Blair started with the Golden Inheritance  from the last Conservative government over thirteen years ago. Their term in power has been a financial and social disaster for the UK. The actions of Blair taking us to an unnecessary war has cost the country billions and, more importantly, cost the lives of many of our military, plus up to a million Iraquis and Afghanis, many of them civilians.
It is a shameful chapter in the history of the world. The UK needs to get rid of every vestige of this ‘New’ Labour thinking. It has been a disaster.

Where has all the money gone?

Posted by michael on February 10, 2010

So new taxes are required to care for the elderly! Surprised that Brown let this out into the public domain!   The UK cannot take care of it’s elderly, who have paid their taxes throughout their lives, without taxing the current generation.
Looks like Labour have simply spent the money whilst in power and done nothing to provide for the elderly and those who need help in their old age.
Is Gordon Brown incapable of planning ahead?

How can Labour have spent it all IF the UK economy has been as successful as Labour claim whilst in government!!! Remember the ‘Golden Inheritance’ from the last Conservative government?
Labour took office with a strong economy. So where did the money go?

It appears to me that Brown, despite his friendship with Prudence, has simply bankrupted the UK whilst in power. (And don’t blame the recession, we were in trouble before the global recession hit!).
If  Labour REALLY put the UK first then we would have an election as soon as possible to allow an elected PM to get on with the job of fixing the UK as soon as possible! Whilst they hang on hoping that the economy gets better, Brown is putting his own career BEFORE the needs of the UK.

Banks win overdraft charges court case

Posted by michael on November 25, 2009

This court case was never addressing the main issue.

It is not the principle of having penalties for going overdrawn, it is the AMOUNT of penalty that these greedy and grasping banks are taking.

The very concept of a FIXED penalty is the problem. These penalties are set up to penalise the poorest and weakest in our society.

This incompetent Labour government did a huge amount of damage by closing post offices and forcing many people to have benefits, pensions etc paid into bank accounts. They did not understand the consequences of this action, all they could see were cost saving!

People on low incomes should NOT be forced to have a bank account. They are the least able to manage bank accounts and the ones who suffer the most when things go wrong.

Many elderly, sick and low paid workers only have £50 a week available to pay ALL their bills. The moment they get charged £30 plus, their accounts go out of control and they end up owing the banks hundreds of pounds.

Penalty charges MUST be PROPORTIONAL to income.

We cannot have a situation where the money paid to the poorest people in our society and which they need to live on is taken by the banks to increase their profits and add to the bonuses paid to the senior staff!!

Our prime minister did not bother listening to those who forecast exactly what would happen if the government persisted in forcing people to open bank accounts. Gordon Brown made the wrong decision, as usual, and the poorest people in the UK are the ones who are hit the hardest!

MP’s expenses – investigator reports results and recommendations

Posted by michael on October 12, 2009

I like the way that Gordon Brown could not even organise an investigation that would keep him in the clear!

Why would he give the investigator the right to change the expenses rules retrospectively with the result that MPs who had followed the rules and been in the clear were now branded as cheats and thieves?

Most enquiries of this sort recommend changes of the rules that need to be introduced! And then everybody follows the recommendations!

This is a serious political mistake by Brown. He has inflamed the voters of this country against all politicians and MPs. What is he up to?

Cameron would have handled the situation very much better!!

Does this surprise me? NO!!!!

Posted by michael on September 4, 2009

Some of the train companies have announced record increases in fares. The government took all the trouble to regulate peak fares to keep the cost of travelling by train down.

Peak fares which are linked to the inflation rate, and this has been coming down so  peak fares have been falling as well.

What does not surprise me is that the government failed to link the off-peak fares to the inflation rate. Why didn’t they put this link in place? Did they even consider needing to regulate off-peak fares?

Or were they happy for off-peak fares to climb by as much as 143% !!!!

Incompetence? or planned? Either way most people are going to blame Brown and New Labour!

So, more cars on the roads now. More fuel burnt, more carbon and other poisonous fumes for us all to breathe in!!!

the banks – experts in looking after themselves!

Posted by michael on August 30, 2009

More staff cuts are being threatened by the banking system.

Yet these are the people whose actions were the root cause of the global financial recession! Of course their greed  for profits was allowed by the Labour government who failed to regulate the financial industry properly. The fact that it was a global failure of regulation does not let Brown off the hook!

New Labour encouraged the banking system to absorb the failing banks. Why? I don’t really understand their reasons, they didn’t seem to be the right course of action at the time!

So the UK has ploughed billions into the banks to stop them from failing – we will all have to pay extra taxes for many years to come for this action.

But would the situation be better if the failing banks had been allowed to fail?

The assets of the failed banks could have been sold, this would have raised a lot of money.

Yes ,the staff would probably all have lost their jobs, but many of them are going to lose them anyway! All the banks are eventually going to dump staff, just to cut costs. The way that Brown has organised things we have paid billions to the banks to take over the failed banks. They have taken the money and are still going to get rid of lots of people in the interests of efficiencies.

The UK is going to pay twice for the staff of these failed banks.
