All the ministers from the discredited New Labour government are tainted with its failure!

Posted by michael on May 16, 2010

It is my view that none of the ministers from the last failed Labour government are fit to be the leader of the Labour party!

They are all responsible for being part of what has probably been the worst Labour government of modern times.

Brown and Darling will take more of the blame and responsibility by virtue of their positions in the government.

But all the senior ministers  have been part of a government which has almost bankrupted the UK, taken us to unnecessary wars and brought our economy to its knees.

What short memories they have!!

How can any of these people have any credibility with any financial policies that they may want to promote.

They are all already tainted with a message of financial failure and will carry this message of failure for the rest of their lives!

Conservative and Libdem coalition government

Posted by michael on May 12, 2010

We effectively have a coalition government now.

It means that the two parties need to make some compromises of their policies to avoid friction. But that happens anyway within a single government!!

The Conservatives have a left and a right wing which have to work together.

New Labour have Blairites and Brownites who have to work together!

So the idea of rifts and splits with the government is no more than happens in every government!

But I also see this as an equivalent to the war-time coalition government of 1945. We have serious financial problems with the UK close to bankruptcy and the risk of the IMF coming in to run the UK.

So, excluding Labour because they caused the problems by a lack of thrift and what I see as the worst government  and the worst prime minister in modern times, the coalition of the Conservatives and the Libdems will be more than competent in resolving the financial mess inherited from Brown!

UK’s ‘very high’ public debt presents ‘challenge’ to the EU

Posted by michael on May 5, 2010

This is what Gordon Brown has refused to tell people. The perilous state of the UK economy has been ignored by Gordon Brown during this election. Yet it is probably the most important topic of the whole election.

Gordon Brown has hidden the true state of the UK economy from us.

New figures from the European Commission revealed today that the UK budget deficit will outstrip any country in the EU this year – including Greece.

European Commissioner Olli Rehn warned that the UK’s ‘very high’ public debt presents ‘by far the first and foremost challenge’ to the winner of tomorrow’s general election.

We are prime candidates to go the same way as Greece and need to be bailed out by the IMF.

This is why Labour do not deserve to get back into power!!

the gap between rich and poor is wider after 14 years of Labour

Posted by michael on April 21, 2010

After 14 years of Brown and New Labour, the gap between rich and poor is wider than it has been since the days of slavery!!

Is this not an absolute condemnation of Gordon Brown and New Labour who appear to have been totally incapable of even narrowing the gap between rich and poor!

What does New Labour actually stand for if they cannot help the poorest in our society?

Or is it the word ‘new‘ in their name that indicates that Labour has changed and no longer has no interest in the poorest and more vulnerable members of our society?

Guess the new VAT rate if Brown gets his way!

Posted by michael on April 12, 2010

When you look at what Brown is saying and what he is not saying, about VAT rates, it is absolutely clear that he is planning a VAT rise if he gets back into power.
Looking at the VAT rates of the Euro countries, the smaller, weaker countries (like the UK is now!) have VAT rates in excess of 20%. I would not be surprised if the UK went to 21% VAT in two steps over 12 months.
Increasing VAT is most harmful to the lower paid. Those people on low, fixed incomes are going to be hit very much harder than those who earn a reasonable income.
If VAT is increased  then Brown is going to harm Labour’s natural supporters more than those who vote for the other parties.

Brown doesn’t like our democracy

Posted by michael on April 7, 2010

Brown is the man in charge of MPs expenses. What a mess he has made of it!
Now he wants to change the way parliament works in order to fix the problems he has caused.
When will that man learn that he was not competent enough to run the MPs expenses (judging from the mess that resulted) and that he is not the man to fix the problems he has caused.
Brown has already removed most of our democratic processes by selling us out to the EU without a vote!
Changing what remains for us to influence within our democracy is not something I would trust Brown to manage properly.

Labour used the budget for their own benefit!

Posted by michael on March 24, 2010

Well, it didn’t take long for the budget figures to start to unravel!!!!!  The Stamp Duty increase for £1m homes will not pay for first-time buyers’ tax holiday!

This was just a political speech even though the UK is desperate for some real, effective policies to sort out the mess following 14 years of brown, darling and blair!

Labour put their own interests before the needs of the UK. That is enough of a reason for them to be chucked out of office!

British people used to complain!

Posted by michael on March 5, 2010

British people used to complain when such unreasonable price hikes were put onto  essential products and services.
We seem to have stopped objecting to what our government does. Even the price increases on gas, electricity, water etc. are as a result of government policy even though they are applied by the service companies.
It would seem that almost everything in our society is designed, under this government, to take more and more money from us!
We were not well placed to withstand the recession.
We are not well placed to pay the huge increases in taxation needed to repay the UK debts that Brown has built up from the recession. We have many years of  financial hardship ahead of us to clear the UK debts.
Thanks Gordon!

UK energy – a disaster in the making?

Posted by michael on October 9, 2009

There is a potential disaster heading our way over the next 10 years.

There has been a lot of talk recently about an energy ‘gap’ around 2016. What that means to the ordinary person is that there will be shortages of electricity at peak periods.

Why? Because the investment is not in place for our increasing demand for electricity to be met.

A contract was very recently agreed for four new, latest generation nuclear power stations. All very good but at least three years too late! The first station is due to be operating in 2018. That is if everything goes well and the planning permissions don’t spend years in the courts being granted!

Another aggravating factor is that a number of UK coal and oil power stations are due to be decommissioned by the end of 2015.

New fossil fuel power stations (mostly coal) are needed but global warming and climate change concerns means that they should only be operating with carbon capture technology – which isn’t available yet!

Note that a number of fossil fuel power stations are needed by 2015 just to stand still, ie to replace old stations going out of service .

Renewable energy sources are promising. Wind farms are producing electricity now, and more are due to be built. But wind farms only operate when there is wind! The fossil fuel and nuclear stations can be turned down when energy from renewable sources is available, but the fossil fuel and nuclear stations will have to be able to meet the peak demand for electricity on their own!

Businesses and private homes can do a lot by using electricity efficiently and avoiding heat loss through insulation etc but the real problem is in generating electricity efficiently.

The government has the job to ensure that the lights do not go out. At this moment of time it would seem that they are failing in their responsibilities!

The threat of terrorism against the UK

Posted by michael on September 8, 2009

The reason why we are under a continual threat of being bombed and having passenger jets blown up is that Blair, Brown and Bush went to war against Iraq and Afghanistan.

Gordon Brown is claiming that our troops are fighting in Afghanistan in order to stop the threat of terrorism in the UK.

He is right! But his actions in the first place are the reason why we now have to deal with this threat against us. But the consequences of going to war against any country is that the people of that country will fight back!

What does Gordon Brown think that victory in the war in Afghanistan means. I don’t remember ever hearing him define what he thinks that beating the taliban actually means.

I have heard Brown saying that his intention is to train the Afghan government troops to carry on the war against the taliban themselves. But this is not going to stop the attacks against the UK and UK interests around the world. It simply gets our soldiers out of Afghanistan.

Getting peace for the UK and the USA means that all extremists, mostly Islamic, are prepared to stop bombing us at home and abroad.

It is possible that there is no way of getting peace in the war against terrorism. Brown, Blair and Bush have opened Pandora’s box. We cannot put the lid back on.

I think that the actions of these three leaders have cursed the world for a very long time. They will not go down in history in any other terms!

(In Greek mythology, Pandora’s box is the large jar  carried by Pandora  that unleashed many evils on mankind – ills, toils and sickness – and hope. (source: Wikipedia)
