New Labour – desperate for a class war ?
Posted by michael on December 29, 2009
Naturally Labour are desperate to show a class war with the Conservatives helping their rich friends and New Labour helping their poor, lower paid supporters.
The poor, lower paid have of course been the focus of the the last 12 years of New Labour in government?
Actually NO! Labour have failed to look after the lower paid. They have failed to support their union friends.
Living standards for the poor are worse now than 12 years ago.
Child poverty, despite the money spent on it, is as bad as it ever was.
Education standards are lower in state schools!
New Labour like their millionaire friends, to have (several) expensive houses, to be photographed with important people, to jump when the USA tells them to!
New Labour have no right to claim that they care for the poor. The traditional left-wing Labour MPs appear to have been sidelined!
Blair and Brown and many of their ministers would appear to be only interested in living the high life! Now the chickens are steadily coming home to roost and New Labour are beginning to understand that they have isolated themselves from almost all areas of society.
An example of Brown and Labour putting themselves before the country is the refusal of this government to stand down now and have an election.
The UK is in desperate straits. The finances are shot. The debts are huge and will take years to pay back. Public Services are being cut. Decisions are being taken by a government whose focus is on surviving the next six months.
How can that be good for the UK? We need decisive action and long term decision making. Whilst New Labour hang on to power looking for ways to survive, they are putting the interests of the UK after the interests of the country!

Banks win overdraft charges court case
Posted by michael on November 25, 2009
This court case was never addressing the main issue.
It is not the principle of having penalties for going overdrawn, it is the AMOUNT of penalty that these greedy and grasping banks are taking.
The very concept of a FIXED penalty is the problem. These penalties are set up to penalise the poorest and weakest in our society.
This incompetent Labour government did a huge amount of damage by closing post offices and forcing many people to have benefits, pensions etc paid into bank accounts. They did not understand the consequences of this action, all they could see were cost saving!
People on low incomes should NOT be forced to have a bank account. They are the least able to manage bank accounts and the ones who suffer the most when things go wrong.
Many elderly, sick and low paid workers only have £50 a week available to pay ALL their bills. The moment they get charged £30 plus, their accounts go out of control and they end up owing the banks hundreds of pounds.
Penalty charges MUST be PROPORTIONAL to income.
We cannot have a situation where the money paid to the poorest people in our society and which they need to live on is taken by the banks to increase their profits and add to the bonuses paid to the senior staff!!
Our prime minister did not bother listening to those who forecast exactly what would happen if the government persisted in forcing people to open bank accounts. Gordon Brown made the wrong decision, as usual, and the poorest people in the UK are the ones who are hit the hardest!

Gordon wants to be reelected
Posted by michael on November 8, 2009
I do wonder how Gordon Brown works out what policies he wants to introduce!
Just recently he has introduced a purge on getting people off benefits and onto jobseekers allowance. Of course there are no jobs but it does cut down on benefits paid out.
But did he investigate the effects of this policy? Or was he just after headlines?
A table of which constituencies use the most benefits shows that the first 200 constituencies in the list (the higher the position the more benefits are paid), 189 constituencies are represented by Labour MPs!
The first Conservative in the list is in position 210.
So lets get that right. Brown introduces a policy to make him more electable and punishes the most the very people he wants to get votes from!
Good thinking. Keep up the good work Gordon!

‘bonus culture’ is inherently dishonest!
Posted by michael on August 4, 2009
Once upon a time, bonuses were paid as an addition to the salary if the performance of the individual, or perhaps the team, exceeded the job specification and targets that were part of the job.
Basically, if a worker actually does his/her job properly then they would not get a bonus. Why not? Because they did the job that they were paid for.
Nowdays, there are too many companies where the bosses get paid huge bonuses for achieving targets that are little more than their job specification. They get large salaries for doing their job, and then get large bonuses for doing their job.
This is not the same as those workers who get minimal salaries and whose earnings are based on their efforts and their performance. The commission structure generally means that these workers do get rewarded for the efforts that they put in.
Unfortunately we have seen a massive increase in this this greedy bonus culture amongst state sector organisations. Our taxes are being used to pay massive bonuses for those running these organisations.
We need to stop these greedy bosses from abusing the people of the UK who do not want their taxes being used to pay bonuses on top of the huge salaries these greedy people are getting!

another, un-elected Labour leader? – surely not!
Posted by michael on June 4, 2009
Well, well, well! The honourable members of the New Labour party are behaving very much like the Old Labour party. Perhaps that little word ‘New’ was only added to to make Labour acceptable to more voters – the same people, the same politics but a different image!
Looks like a plan, a well worked out plan, by the colleagues of the Prime Minister to turf him out.
So will that mean that another, un-elected leader of Labour is going to appear and run the country without a mandate!
I don’t think that the UK electorate would stand for that. They will want an election not a new leader.
Who says politics is boring? How can people not be interested in on-going collapse of New Labour?

Why is there such outrage against MPs expenses?
Posted by michael on May 31, 2009
I don’t understand why this ‘public outrage’ against all MPs is being so hyped up!
Why on earth should MPs be called to account for not saving the country money? We would save a lot of money if we paid them ‘minimum wage’ rates but no one would think that was sensible!
MPs who cheat should obviously be called to account. But MPs who claim within the rules are not doing anything wrong., even though we may think that the system needs changing.
Perhaps it is because so many people in the UK have been hurt and are suffering because of the damage that this government has done to the UK and to them over the last 12 years.
There has been a definite divide between the rich, who are getting richer, and the poor, who are getting poorer! The recession, affecting the UK more than most of the rest of the world, has made life for many people, mainly those who are less well off, worse still!
So is this just a reaction against the government and the politicians (a plague on all their houses)?

MPs expenses. Who is to blame?
Posted by michael on May 14, 2009
I think it is important to remember that the MPs seem to have been mostly operating within the rules.
The next point is that all of these expense claims have been signed off and agreed by the people operating the expenses system. So have these officials been signing off expenses without checking them?
It does look like the officials have operated the system as it was intended to be operated.
The BIGGEST problem here is not that the system does not work, it is that the system is rubbish.
Who is responsible for the expenses system?
The answer is that the government in power is responsible. It is the Prime Minister who is responsible for the system that he is in charge of.
This is just another example of Gordon Brown not seeing problems until other people have pointed them out! He seems to be spending a lot of his time firefighting! It would have been a lot better if he brings in legislation and systems that actually work in the first place!
Brown seems to be always reacting after the problems occur, he seems to be part of a government which is unable to see the problems before the legislation is implemented. Or perhaps they don’t really understand the legislation that they introduce!

More blame for the credit crunch on Brown
Posted by michael on May 12, 2009
In an analysis of the causes for the ‘credit crunch’ economic crisis, the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) has stated that the problems were not caused by market failures.
The study,Verdict on the Crash, claims that the government failed to manage the regulatory process of the financial and economic systems.
In other words, the ‘credit crunch’ and the state of the UK with it’s massive debts are the fault of the New labour government and Gordon Brown.
