quote from the Mails report of the speech
Brown sought to ally the Tories to the financial crisis, by arguing that the banks’ collapse was caused by the failure of the ‘Conservative idea that markets always self-correct but never self-destruct’.
Interesting. I thought that the financial crisis was caused by Gordon Brown’s failure to regulate the Financial industry in the UK.
Whilst Brown, first as chancellor and then as (unelected) prime minister, received lots of money from the financial industry, there appears to be very little regulation going on.
The banks were allowed to do what they wanted because Brown allowed them to.
There are of course lots of reasons for the recession that we are slowly coming out of. But it is my view that the primary reason as far as the UK is concerned is that our chancellor and our prime minister failed to regulate the financial industry and the UK sleep-walked into recession.

What a terrible phrase – low level crime.
Moronic or drunken yobs can attack houses and property, terrorise individuals, sometimes on a daily basis.
These tend yobs focus on the weaker targets.
The police don’t bother with it, they won’t turn out.
All these excuses – too busy, don’t have the officers available, etc. Someone might turn up a few days later!
But if the householder or the person being attacked actually fights back, then van loads of police are there in minutes and arrest the victims of the yobs.
New Labour have failed the people of the UK. Low level crime affects more people than any other crimes but the police do not have the resources, or the political will, to do anything about it
Brown can say what he wants and make as many promises as he wants during his speech today, but it has been his policies over the last decade that have caused all these problems!

I expect very little from our police force these days.
I don’t actually know why they exist, and I am not sure that they do either! It certainly isn’t to maintain law and order within the UK and to protect the ordinary people of this country from being attacked, or beaten up, or have property stolen, or property smashed or to help them not to have to live under the threat of mindless, moronic yobs!
But if we defend ourselves or our property the police are pretty quick in arresting us!
Perhaps the police are too busy chasing terrorists who want to blow us up?
Mind you, that would not be a problem if Brown and Blair had not taken us into a pointless war in Iraq and Afghanistan!
I agree. It is not this bad everywhere in the UK. But it certainly is in many places and it won’t be long before it affects us all!

Gordon Brown has proved on almost every measure that he has failed to govern the UK.
How can New Labour fight an election based on what Cameron ‘might do‘ when Brown has proved without dispute that he unable to govern the UK and has put us into recession and given us years of high taxes and reduced services to pay back the debts!
How badly does a labour leader have to perform before the Labour hierarchy decide that he (or she) cannot do the job? If Brown was a managing director of a company he would have gone a long time ago!
It astounds me that there is even a discussion about Gordon Brown being capable of running the country for the next five years. It is not as though he was simply unlucky with events completely outside of his control taking place around him.
Brown inherited a fantastic economy from the Conservatives. The ‘Golden Inheritance’ allowed Blair and Brown a wonderful opportunity and they totally failed to take advantage of it!
One of Brown’s early actions was to tax pension funds, so now most ordinary people will not be able to retire as expected, they will have to work for longer because their pension has been devalued.
Labour would point to new schools and new hospitals, but most of these would seem to have been built on borrowings – the PFI debt is huge and we still need to pay it back. I can only assume that the PFI debt levels are kept hidden from the public to protect the Labour government!
The British rail expansion/ rebuild is also on borrowed money. These two debts, and some others, are not even included in the UK debt level figures!
So how much debt is the UK in? Redefining the UK debt levels to exclude some large debts would seem to indicate that we are allowed to know!
There is one thing that is quite amusing with New Labour’s attempts to stay in power. They are continually claiming that Cameron would do worse running the UK than New Labour would. I don’t believe that anyone could do worse that Blair and Brown have done over the last 12 years!

The BBC seem quite happy to allow Labour MPs and Labour supporters to make comments against Cameron that are an attack on what they perceive is his class.
The BBC would not allow attacks based on age, colour or race but disparaging and negative remarks against ‘toffs’ seem to be acceptable!
I would like to see how the BBC presenters, radio and TV, would react if a Conservative speaker told a Labour supporter that their views are of no value because don’t have a degree or left school at 16 etc.
Yet Labour seem to want to use class as a reason for not supporting Cameron and the Conservatives (I have heard these comments many times in recent weeks) and the BBC allow these comments to be said. Are people really not fit to govern because they went to certain elite schools and universities?

Labour activists and MPs must be really going through loads of changes of clothing!!
Everything to do with Brown seems to get worse and worse as the months go on. Yet there seems to be no way of getting rid of the person who (almost) everyone blames for their standing in the opinion polls.
The UK economy seems to be getting worse whilst other countries are improving.
But even if we come completely out of the recession now, then we have horrific debts and a broken economy to fix.
I cannot believe that the people of the UK will want the person who broke the economy to be the one who fixes it!!
When the pain comes, with increased taxes, increased costs, reduced services and increased unemployment and increased repossessions etc. people won’t want to see the person responsible still getting his salary, still flying around the world for photo opportunities, and still pretending that none of it was his fault.
It does seems strange to me that people could think that anyone else could possibly be a worse prime minister.
No wonder that Darling claims that Labour has “lost the will to live”

Welsh Secretary Peter Hain has said ‘Labour must expose the Tories‘ and ‘they had been given an easy ride by everybody‘.
Of course they have had an easy ride! Labour have been so appalling in government over the last 12 years that anyone, even the Lib Dems, look very, very good compared to Gordon Brown and New Labour!
Tony Blair and Gordon Brown have taken us to war in Iraq and Afghanistan. There does not seem to have been any grounds for these wars. Now, of course, we are under continual threat by the people whom we attacked first!
If we hadn’t been part of the invasion of Iraq and then participated in a war against the Afghan people then we would not have spent a fortune in war materials and dealing with our injured soldiers! Nor would we need all this enhanced security and be continually defending ourselves from attacks by terrorists!
Oh I nearly forgot! Gordon Brown was chancellor and then prime minister and completely failed to regulate the financial industry and the banking industry. He appears to have completely missed the fact that our country was at risk from financial meltdown over the years before the meltdown actually happened!
I really don’t understand how anyone could expect the person who put the UK finances in such dire straits to be capable of getting us out of trouble. And it is looking as though other countries are coming out of recession whilst we look forward to many years of high taxes, cuts in services and huge debts!
My message to the Labour party conference is ‘be loyal to your leader and stick with him despite what he has put us through’. That we we can get rid of all of you at the next election!

Two mothers, whose families have been friends for years, are not allowed to look after each others children.
Why not!
Because Gordon Brown has passed laws which are meant to deal with child abuse but apply to everyone in the country.
Childminders need to be police checked. Fine, no problem with that. But it is a million miles away from two women who have known each other for years and help to look after each others children!
Of course there are categories of people who need to be cleared to work with children. But these people are normally, at least to start with, strangers to families. Schoolteachers, youth club leaders, doctors, there are many other categories, are part of a child’s life for a short time in most cases. These people are mostly not known to parents, and they should be cleared to work with children.
Family friendships can be for a lifetime, applying the law in these cases is just crass!
Want to know why Brown is seen by so many people as a useless prime minister? It is because he is completely out of touch with reality. I do wonder if he only employs advisers who agree with everything he says!
Yes there have been some bad cases of child abuse. But there always will be some bad cases of child abuse! Laws or no laws! These rules are being applied to the 99.99% of the population who do not abuse children. Passing bad laws that legislate for specific situations always end up applying to the bulk of the population, people who are not doing anything wrong but are just living their lives in a completely proper and competent manner.
Brown will claim that this is all to protect children. But has he passed any laws yet that will ban any person on the children at risk register from having their own children?
Can he really justify applying laws to everyone except families who have a parent who is actually registered as a risk to children?

So Gordon Brown is ‘Statesman of the Year’
It explains a lot. This award is going to embarrass him. It would seem to show where his priorities are!
We have been through a massive recession, which Brown, as prime minister should have foreseen and prepared us for.
He has obviously been more focused on global events than he has been on looking after the UK. No wonder he didn’t see the recession coming!
The UK is in recession, in deep financial trouble. It might show signs of coming out of recession now, but the UK now has such high debts that we all have to suffer tax increases and reduced services for years to come as a result.
Yet Gordon Brown was able to spend so much time on world events that he has got an award for it!
Brown cannot claim that he could do both jobs simply because of the deep financial mess that he has left us in.
His lack of time working for the UK has left us leadership through troubled financial times.
People are going to blame him, and New Labour, for abandoning the UK for his own personal ambitions.

Blaming the grammar schools for making kids feel bad if they fail to reach the level of education required to qualify for them really is a case of blaming the messenger!
The state schools fail to educate the kids and the grammar schools won’t take them on as a result.
The problem has occurred before the kids apply to the grammar schools.
The problem has occurred because the state system is dumbed down to meet government targets.
But Labour have reduced the number of grammar schools, so many kids who would qualify fail to get a place because there simply are not enough places because of New Labour policies.
One thing seems to be clear. Ed Balls obviously believes that grammar schools are better than state schools and that means that New Labour have failed to bring the state schools up to the the standard of grammar schools, despite all the money spent on the education system in the UK.
This is an admission of failure by the government minister responsible!
